i had my hair permed when i wasn't even sure if i was ready for such a drastic change. my first reaction after the perming process was "oh no, i look like one of the wonder girls!"
for weeks, i had to struggle with my hair. having been used to polished strands, ponytails, and loose buns for years, my suddenly curly do had become way too bohemian for me. i couldn't get my hair to stay put in the way i combed it when it was wet. it was either too crinkly or too poufy. styling my hair became so frustrating that i started to seriously consider having my hair cut short.
eventually, i got tired of wrestling with it. so i let it be.
lo and behold, my curly mane behaved itself. my curls became wavier as my hair got longer. it was just magic. i can actually just get up from my bed in the morning and actually get through the day without combing my hair.
now i'm seriously considering having curly hair forever.
